Local Weather & Tides

Weather station at Wickhams

Most people prefer to swim at high tide. Midway thru incoming tides are also good times to swim in the bays, the water is high enough for swimming, but still low enough to touch bottom. There are 2 tide cycles every 24hrs and the mean tidal range is ~ 3 feet (1 m) in the Peconic Estuary.

Tide charts are like weather forecasts, they are accurate, but are impacted by weather and therefore not always true.) The tides at Dave Allison park are usually ~ 10 minutes before New Suffolk. The tides at Nassau Point Causeway Community Park (on the west shore of Little Peconic Bay) are usually ~1/2 hour before New Suffolk.
